Real reindeer were trained to pull the sleigh,
it took months to get them through training
( this time also let them grow their antlers out )
All the toys were handmade
( you can see them in the workshop scenes )
after filming was done, they were donated to charity !
Harrison Ford, Dustin Hoffman,
Johnny Carson, and Burt Reynolds
all were offered the role of toy maker B.Z.
but turned it down.
When the real reindeer could not be used in a shot, animatronic deer were used!

Plot:
One of Santa's elves (Dudley Moore) has high hopes of modernizing the workshop, when his plan fails, he leaves the north pole and gets mixed up with a greedy toy maker (John Lithgow) can Santa save his lost elf and Christmas?
